Let's GO fly a kite!
"Join me on a journey into the skies—my adventure as a kite flyer since 1969. Together, let's unfold the story of my experiences and the passion that has driven me through the decades."
Christopher Moss
Kite Flyer / Enthusiast
My adventure began in 1969 when I was just a boy (I was 7 to be exact). My grandfather crafted a unique kite for me, using newspaper, string, and a few wooden sticks for a tail to ensure it flew steadily. It took several days for the glue to set. Finally, on a sunny Saturday, we took it outside and launched it into the sky. Watching it climb higher and higher, gracefully cutting through the air, filled us with joy.
Since then, I have always flown a kite whenever possible.
The History Of Kites:
Many scholars believe that kites were developed in China. Other evidence suggests that kites were used by cultures in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the South Pacific as fishing instruments made of natural materials like leaves and reeds. Anthropological evidence suggests that kites may have been independently developed in other areas, but these claims are not well documented.
In 450 BC, famous Chinese philosopher Mo-tse spent three years carefully crafting a wooden bird to fly on a tethered line. There is some debate on whether this reference is considered a kite.
The earliest written account of kite flying is in China in 200 BC, supporting China’s claim to the origin of the kite. The Chinese General Han Hsin of the Han Dynasty flew a kite over the walls of a city he was attacking to measure how far his army would have to tunnel to reach past the defenses.
By the 13th Century, kite flying had spread by traders from China to Korea and across Asia to India and the Middle East. Each area developed a distinctive style of kite and cultural purpose for flying them.
A Blast from the past, remember these Hi-Flyer & Gayla Kites?
The Hi-Flier Manufacturing Company - Was founded by Harvey A. Sellers (1889-1976) in his Decatur, Illinois, basement. He got started by purchasing a patent to a bow kite from a Decatur inventor named Arthur W. Cash (US Patent # 1452956) and later that same year patented a barn-door kite in his own name.
Gayla Industries, Inc - Was founded in 1961 primarily as a manufacturer of plastic keel-guided delta-wing kites that require no tails, as well as latex balloons. Their kites are sold worldwide in toy and hobby stores. The company owns several patents on their tail-less keel-guided kite designs.
During my time - I took to the skies with a multitude of kites in tow — from the intricate skeleton kite to the mysterious bat kite, and an array of other paper kites that danced harmoniously with the wind.
Vintage Kites can still be purchased online - You have the opportunity to purchase these items on eBay currently, priced at around $99.00 each. However, back in 1969, these particular paper kites were selling for a mere $0.10 apiece at select locations such as the Sprouse Reitz dime stores in South Gate, California.
Currently - I operate an impressive collection of kites, including "I Fly," a striking 30-foot-long black ripstop nylon skeleton kite adorned with captivating green eyes. Additionally, my repertoire features a colossal 110-square-meter Trilobite kite available in a range of vibrant colors, along with an assortment of high-quality ripstop nylon stunt kites.
Whether you're a seasoned aviator or prefer to keep your feet on the ground, consider investing in a colorful kite. Head to the nearest beach armed with your favorite pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses, set up a comfy beach chair, secure it in the sand, and fly a one string kite high into the sky, around 200 feet above. Then take a moment to gaze out at the vast ocean before you, take a deep breath, and savor the serenity. Engaging in this simple yet therapeutic activity can be a soothing balm for anyone seeking a moment of peace and tranquility!
On tranquil days, I eagerly prepare and fly these two kites, savoring the serene moments they bring once they are gracefully soaring in the sky. The peaceful setting created by the presence of these kites never fails to provide a soothing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

I recently acquired a captivating and intricately designed Trilobite Kite, boasting an impressive size of 100 square meters. The kite's striking appearance and spacious dimensions make it a standout addition to my collection of flying marvels.
The specifications for my new 110 Square Meter Trilobite Kite are as follows: it stands impressively tall at 90 feet, stretches wide to 90 feet, and features tentacles that reach an extraordinary length of 300 feet.
The kite line is 1/4 inch thick, braided, and has Kevlar interwoven into the kite line to get it the 5,500 pound pull strength it requires during its flight.
My kite was made in China by the Weifang Kite Company
Weifang, Shandong, China is known as the kite capital of the world as people consider Weifang to be the birthplace of kites. Each spring, people in the city fly kites as a leisure outdoor activity. The designs on many Chinese kites have a symbolic meaning or illustrations from Chinese folklore or history.

The much-anticipated moment arrived during my trip as I unveiled the remarkable 2024 110 SQ Meter Trilobite Kite. The awe-inspiring spectacle captured the attention of onlookers, marking a milestone in my kite flying adventures.
MY MASSIVE 2024 TRILIBITE KITE!!
MASSIVE is an understatement when describing this impressive structure. Standing at a towering height of 95 feet, with a breadth reaching 95 feet, and an imposing length stretching out to 333 feet, it commands attention and awe in its sheer size and grandeur.
This kite is enormously impressive; it required anchoring to a lifeguard station due to its sheer size and the fear of relying on sand "Screw type anchors." The pulling force it exerts is truly astonishing. In a daring moment, I attempted to secure a 12,000 pound rock climbing carabiner to the thick kite cable, measuring over 1/4 inches in diameter with kevlar woven into the material, almost like a "Cable." Unfortunately, the cable wrapped around my right hand, causing intense pain. If not for the timely intervention of a friend helping me untangle, I could have sustained severe injury, perhaps even losing my hand. The immense force it generates once airborne is truly remarkable.
45 SQ Meter Trilobote Kite - BEFORE
110 SQ Meter Trilobote Kite - AFTER
Everyone, young and old, wants to try out this MASSIVE Trilobite kite. Fascinated by its size, a young man attempted to pull on the kite's cable, followed by his Dad. Both were caught off guard by the immense force the kite, moving at just 10 MPH, was generating, leaving the Dad astonished by its power.
Hanging out with the people I love, (protect them at all costs), relaxing at the beach is my "chi." This serene environment allows me to unwind, recharge my batteries, and connect with nature on a deeper level.
THE FACE OF A HAPPY PERSON - FLYING MY 110 SQ METER TRILOBITE KITE
The weather was not so good amongst other things buy getting the kite off the ground was quite rewarding in contrast, definitely a pinnacle moment in my life of kite flying - Much more to come, and many more adventures to come.

Remember, it's perfectly acceptable to give, but it's equally important to receive in what they call a balanced life.
Individuals with solipsistic, unmindful, avaricious, or egomaniacal mentalities may struggle to grasp the concept due to a lack of understanding; hence, it is advisable not to attempt to elucidate it to them.
